Chokers – The 5 golden rules
Chokers
Choker necklaces are experiencing a fashion revival from some of the world's top designers. From minimalist to chunky, chokers are popping up everywhere for a perfect pairing with both work and play outfits. Try a simplistic gold chain or show your personal style with colorful beaded style. There is something to suit any taste with all of the options available in the Stylight online shop.
Chokers – The 5 golden rules
Once worn by punks, goths and tattoo lovers, chokers are now the perfect item to complete cool outfits in any style. It doesn’t matter if you’re going for a sweet girly style, sexy bare metal, elegant with pearls or trendy with a vintage look: the ultra short chains are more versatile than ever. These necklaces are minimalistic but effective and give every outfit an elegant lift. Luxury versions are available in gold and silver, but there are also more affordable fashion accessories. If you do choose to wear a choker, you should keep in mind the following style rules.
1. Chokers should rest on the skin
Chokers really come into their own when paired with lower cut tops and dresses with round necklines. You should avoid V necks and tops with collars or turtle necks. These tend to steal the limelight and hide what should be the centre of attention: your long, slender neck.
2. A no-no for short necks
A beautiful swan-like neck looks at its best in a choker. If you’re not blessed with such a neck, it’s probably best to stay away from this popular accessory. Short necks will only look even shorter in a tight choker. The result is unsightly creases on the neck or a double chin. Fortunately there are statement necklaces instead: These are often the best choice for shorter necks.
3. Chokers like to party alone
Because chokers emphasize the top part of the neck, you should avoid large earrings like chandelier earrings. These will only distract from the party-piece and overcrowd the look. If you can’t manage without additional jewelry, you should go for subtle bangles or cocktail rings.
4. A match made in heaven: Chokers and purist clothing
Chokers are best shown off in combination with minimalist clothes. Plain blouses or dresses go fantastically with this neck piece. You should also hold back a little when choosing your colors. Sparkly chokers are best combined with monochrome outfits – black or white one-pieces or cocktail dresses. Crazy patterns and neon colors can quickly become overwhelming.
5. Minimalist make up
In the nineties, people were even wearing burgundy lipstick with chokers, but nowadays it’s better to take a more minimalist approach. Bright red lipstick and darkly painted eyes will distract from the head turner around your neck.
A “choker” shouldn’t actually make you choke. Even if most designs are striking reminders of the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey”, don’t worry: This necklace definitely won’t leave you gasping for air.
