Fashion’s latest obsession: the rainbow knit
Season after season, there is one key item that stands out more than any other. This season that item is the rainbow knit. Statement, fun and conveniently cosy (in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s freezing outside), it’s become an overnight wardrobe staple. Plus, it’s already been adopted by the biggest It Girls, from Chiara Ferragani to Alexa Chung.
So, where did the obsession start? Predictably, with Gucci of course, who first released a rainbow jumper a few years ago. This season it’s been reimagined by Alessandro Michele – in super bright shades and emblazoned with a sequin tiger head.
Since then, rainbow mania has taken over tons of other brands, Etro merged their rainbow knit with a slogan sweater (favoured by Caroline Daur), while Ganni have created a rainbow version of their trademark fluffy knit and Loewe have created a comfy, oversized style – perfect for the weekend.
Luckily (for your bank account), high street brands have caught onto the rainbow trend too, and GAP, Topshop and ASOS have all created their own versions of the rainbow knit. Take styling tips from Jennifer Lake in her GAP number below.
