Wooden tables for the kitchen, dining room or as side tables

Wooden tables are popular most of all because of their appearance, but also because they’re easy-care and stable. They come as small tables for the kitchen, grand tables for the larger dining room or as side tables. Stylight gave three types of wooden tables a tryout.

1. The kitchen table

  • Form: round, oval, square or rectangular Diameter about 35 inches and with two to four places. Tabletops made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF), pine or beech. The legs shapes can be clean lines or decorative.
  • Take note: The table legs shouldn’t get in the way while dining. The top should be smooth and easy to clean. Lighter tables are easy and flexible to move around.
  • Price: simple tables between USD 100 and USD 200

2. The large dining table

  • Form: large size, elongated, rectangular or oval for six to ten people. Solid wood made from a single piece of wood or composed of plates of teak or acacia wood. The typical wood pattern, knotholes and knots are visible. The surface is smoothly polished or sealed with clear varnish. Irregularities and little grooves are normal in the more rugged tabletops. Solid framework, stable metal trestles, angular table-legs or striking wooden post legs.
  • Take note: These tables mostly have a natural finish. The timber will need special care with a product such as wood oil unless the table top is sealed. These tables work only in spacious rooms – whether the interior is in an industrial or Nordic country-house style.
  • Price: basic tables with a size of 1×2 yards from USD 400, more elaborate tables from USD 1000.

3. The small side table

  • Form: Unusual, exotic wood like sheesham (Indian wood), teak, beech-hardwood or burlwood. Available in natural with a glass plate or varnished. Every conceivable shape: Cubes, vase-shaped or artistic single blocks.
  • Take note: Extravagant side tables fit in best with pared down living room furniture or with simple fabric or leather chairs. They are quite heavy and are hard to push to one side. Most appropriate for flower vases, expensive lamps and high piles of books.
  • Price: around USD 500

Wooden tables are appropriate for every room in the house. Pick out the right style to suit the size of your room. And if you’re a big fan of good pieces, you can also choose a wooden table for the terrace, garden or balcony.
