Here’s how to find the ideal stand shelf
Stand shelves are probably the most popular shelf-type available on the market. Whether against the wall or free-standing – with this piece of furniture you not only gain storage space, but also create many different ways to decorate your home.
Purpose:
Heavy books, catalogs, or maybe lightweight textiles such as towels? Before you choose a stand shelf, you should know exactly what you want to store in it.
For the study: Books and writing utensils
- Shelves made of solid wood, at least 18 millimeters thick are ideal
- for providing even more stability when fastening shelves to the wall using dowels
- For a free-standing shelf to stand securely, it should be at least 35 centimeters in depth
For the bathroom: Beauty accessories
- Stand shelves made from aluminum or wood as a storage space for toiletries, hair dryers and the like.
- Deeper shelves are ideal for towels.
For the hallway: Odds and ends
- Narrow, space-saving shelves as storage for keys and small items in small hallways.
- Caps, hats and scarves can neatly be stowed in boxes.
- Shoes can be lined up directly in the entrance area.
Size
You should know exactly how much space is available beforehand. Your stand shelf should…
… when standing against a free wall:
- be an ‘across-the-board’ shelf unit
- Be an individual piece, serving as an attention-getter
- A shelf module. which can expanded at any time
… when positioned in tight corners and alcoves:
- Have shelves which are more shallow
- square-shaped standing shelves waste space

Material and style
A floor to ceiling bookshelf or standing shelf which is made of light-colored wood, gives the room a warm, homely atmosphere. Metal shelves with an industrial look are perfect for purist living styles. Water-resistant aluminum shelves are particularly easy to clean and ideal for the bathroom.
