Solar lights – what you should know about the garden lights

Solar lights immerse your balcony, patio, and garden in soft, magical light. We will show you the different solar lights, how they fuction, and where they work best. Most important facts:

How solar lights work

Solar cells are mostly made of silicone and charge through sunlight. They are an eco-friendly and affordable alternative to lighten up your balcony and garden. The cells are waterproof, so you can keep them outdoors even when it rains. Modern solar lights switch themselves on at dusk, by means of an integrated sensor.

Kinds of solar lights

There are lanterns and sphere lights, path or safety lighting, decorative lampions or string lights. The most popular solar lights:

  • Solar lanterns: They are a cordless alternative to conventional path lighting. Solar lanterns are stimply stuck into the ground or can hang alongside the path back to the house.
Favorite Brands: Smart Solar, Peter Jungbluth, approx. $20
  • Solar string lights: These weatherproof string lights make for impressive light effects in your ourdoor area. Available in different lengths and motifs, they can decorate shrubs or balcony railings.
Favorite Brands: Loberon, Konstsmide, approx. $105
  • Solar lampions: In trees, on the garden gate or on the patio: Solar-powered lampions are available in square or round form, in mini format or as large spheres, as hanging lights or as sticks to be put into flower boxes.
    Favorite brands: PureDay, approx. $25

What to keep in mind when installing your solar lights

  • Placement: Solar lights are cordless and therefore easy to install. There is no cable salad and no need for outlets. Super important: The solar light has to get enough sunlight!
  • Environment: Your solar lights work best the farther away they are from other lamps, since they will emit weaker light or shut off entirely, if their sensor registers light from other lamps. Give your solar lights enough space between each other, too.
  • Tipp for the winter: Not all solar lights are winterproof. Some have to be stowed away starting fall. Read the manufacturer’s instructions upon purchase.

Solar lights give soft light to your outdoor space, lead the way in your garden or act as decorative lampions on your balcony. If you follow the instructions for installing, solar lights are affordable and effective decorations for your patio or garden.

Solar lights are eco-friendly and create beautiful light effects to make any outdoor space more magical.
