Hippies knew how to chill out and enjoy life. It’s no wonder, then, that their outfits were bright and happy – from top to toe. And you can slide your happy toes into these: Hippie shoes! Bright, crazy, with an eccentric heel, in colors from pink and orange to purple, gold, blue and all sorts of shades of brown. Nowadays, hippie shoes work best as a highlight with plain outfits or as part of a festival style. They are a little out of place in the office but at dinner or a party, they are a real hit. But there is one thing you should be careful about: These shoes don’t suit everyone. If you’re not a little bit of a hippie at heart, it’s best not to wear these shoes at all. Give jeans a chance
This everyday combination is perfect for the hippie style. For this, you need a pair of jeans with a slight to powerful impact. Either look in a vintage store or go for modern designs that sit really well above your hips. If you feel like improvizing, you can also choose boot cut jeans. The accompanying shirt doesn’t have to be knitted or crocheted. Either make it completely plain in white and with a round neck or go for a modern batik pattern shirt. A bright necklace substitutes for the 1970s rainbow pattern. And finally, a beautiful flower ring completes the hippie look.
Make love and accessories
For parties or meet ups with friends, hippie styling is a funny idea. If you love a little Summer of Love, you can provide the Woodstock fever with the necessary accessories. One of the things the hippies way back when loved – men and women alike – were bandeaux in loose hair, sunglasses with circular lenses, thin, self-knitted scarves from brightly colored wool, friendship bracelets and necklaces with little pouches for personal mini-treasures.
Don’t worry about bags
Hippie shoes and hippie bags go brilliantly together. Made from fabric or with extravagant embroidery and fringe braids, they are just as bright and joyful as the shoes. The styling is a little plainer with rectangular fabric bags in striking colors, but then you really must follow the hippie slogan – “go with the flow!”
