Rugs are excellent for dividing rooms up into different areas. In a large living space a rug can be used to clearly define a place for eating.
- Shape: Whether you should choose a round or rectangular rug will depend on the shape of your table.
- Design: geometric patterns, monochrome and minimalist or an oriental kilim or Berber rug – we recommend that you opt for a color that is already in your dining room.
- Material: When purchasing your rug, check that it is easy to clean. Special cleaning products are available. Plus: there are even washable options.
- Extra tip: The rug should be bigger than the table so that the chairs also fit on it. Your flooring will be safe from dents and scratches.
Inviting and practical: a rug in the hallway
Apart from being decorative, a hallway rug also serves a practical purpose: it absorbs moisture or dirt.
- Shape: If your hallway is very narrow and long, we recommend a runner. In small or square-shaped entrance halls your best option would be a round rug.
- Design: muted colors like gray or black, but also patterned designs, tend to be forgiving of the odd spot.
- Material: It’s best to go for washable varieties. Outdoor rugs, for example, are made of synthetic materials. Extra tip: Don’t be scared to put rugs in small entrance halls. They can create structure optically in even the smallest of halls.
Creative ways of playing: colorful rugs for the kids’ room
A rug on the floor is especially ideal for children who are still crawling, learning to walk, or simply like walking around barefoot.
- Shape: With a rug you can also create separate areas in your children’s rooms for painting or playing. Or you can use it to draw attention to a special piece of furniture.
- Design: colorful maps, funny animals or abstract patterns – whatever the kids like. Material: Since kids often come into close contact with rugs, it’s important that they’re made of non-toxic materials. Natural materials like cotton, wool or hemp are the most suitable.
