How to Keep Your Prada Sneakers Looking Pristine

How to Keep Your Prada Sneakers Looking Pristine

In the days of what fashion insider’s have called “the luxe sneaker era”, shoe obsessives go to great lengths to keep their ultra-rare or impressively expensive designer sneakers spotless. Some go so far as to never even wear them in fear of tarnishing their value with a single unremovable stain.

Modern times demand modern measures, especially when you’re sporting a new pair of Prada kicks. Follow our golden rules for keeping yours in pristine condition.

Rule #1: Spot Clean

Knock the soles together to dislodge dirt and use a damp cloth to wipe away superficial marks. Quick Wipes are ideal for an on-the-go clean, but for the rubber soles, use a damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Rule #2: Deep Clean

Apply a few drops of premium shoe cleaner to a wet shoe brush, shake off and then scrub it into your sneakers gently all over to form a foam. Use a toothbrush for hard to get to places or for more delicate areas such as mesh or suede patches. Wipe off excess with a towel and repeat if necessary. With canvas sneakers, dab and twist with the towel to help lift the stain and dry the canvas.

Rule #3: Replace

New, fresh laces will instantly give your sneakers a face lift. Remove the laces and either replace them with new white ones or soak the dirty ones in washing detergent, place in a garment bag and put them in with a hot white wash.

Rule #4: Protect

After you’ve allowed your newly clean Prada sneaks to dry naturally (never put them near direct heat), lay down a towel and spray with a stain and water repellent. For canvas shoes, use Scotchguard and for premium leather, use a repellent spray.

Rule #5: Store

Lay tumble dryer fabric sheets inside the shoes to help draw out moisture and deodorize them (especially if you regularly wear your sneakers without socks). The best way to keep your sneakers box fresh is to store them in their original box and ideally in dust bags.

Gone are the days when we would simply toss our newly purchased Prada sneakers into a pillowcase and then the washing machine. When you’re wearing a brand as badass as this on your feet, you’ll need to follow certain rules for keeping them on point.

Keeping up with your Prada's.
