How To Spot A Poser Prada Bag

Started by Mario Prada in 1913 and later handed over to his granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, the legacy of this luxury Milanese label continues to live on today through its coveted collections and handcrafted leather goods. A Prada piece can never be mistaken for any other, and this especially holds true for its famous bags.

The Prada bag is often the most imitated by cheap manufacturers and phony salesmen trying to cash in on this eponymous logo. Which is why we’re showing you our tips for spotting a fake and how to find a genuine Prada bag that’s perfect for you.

The Exterior Logo:

The color of the enamel on the exterior logo plaque should be the exact color of the bag or extremely close. The letter R on any authentic Prada logo should have a curved leg not a straight leg, and the rivets along the plague should be completely filled in.

The Hardware:

Hardware is a key factor in identifying authentic Prada bags. For one thing, every single piece of hardware should have the name Prada written on it. (This includes zippers, buckles, locks, metal feed and decorative accents) If you spot a bag with bare hardware, you’re looking at a fake.

The Number Tag:

The number tag inside any Prada bag is also a great way to determine if what you’re about to buy is real or faux.  Authentic Prada handbags will have a small white tag in the interior with a random number on them. This tag will be in every interior pocket of every handbag.

The Interior Logo:

Since we’re opting out of including vintage bags for the purpose of this guide, you should know that every new interior logo plaque says “Prada made in Italy”  on two lines. The plague inside should also match the interior fabric of the bag you’re buying.
