• Perry Ellis International acquired the brand in 1996
• In 2003, the company released a new sportswear collection that saw the brand's popularity rise inexorably

Pete the Penguin

Abbot Pederson, a salesman working for Munsingwear was waiting for a meeting and bought a stuffed penguin, naming him Pete. Pete the Penguin became the inspiration for Original Penguin's logo.
