Jog On, Unicorn Frappuccino, This Is The New Coffee Craze
When you think of coffee you think of coffee machines sexily drizzling liquid energy into a takeout cup, there might be a yummy barista frothing soy milk, there could even be some foam art. But what you don’t expect is your coffee to come from a beer tap. Nitro coffee is the newest coffee craze made famous by molten bean purveyors, La Colombe. These dudes are spitting on Starbucks’ horrid Unicorn Frappuccino concoction and backhanding your matcha latte with their super smooth, delightfully frothy nitro coffee.
Why’s it so fantasmagorical? Well, nitro coffee is healthier than normal coffee, it tastes better, and it has a more luxurious texture. La Colombe’s co-founder Todd Carmichael told Well+Good that when nitrogen is added to coffee, it makes the coffee thicker, giving it a creamy-like texture with no milk additive. It also makes it taste sweeter, without any sugar. Carmichael explains nitro coffee is also a lot less acidic because the bean steeping process in over several hours, as opposed to your drip coffee that’s ground and steeped in a matter of minutes. The resulting beverage is considerably less acidic/sour, and a lot gentler on your gizzards.
Nitro coffee doesn’t have to come from a tap, though; it’s also available in can form. Other nitro coffee masters serving your caffeine fix in can form include Stumpton, Rabbit Coffee, Lucky Jack, and Rise Brewing Co. Puts your Starbucks to shame, right?
