Do It For The ‘Gram – Instagram 2010 v. 2018
Let’s play a game; it’s called: Look at your first ever Instagram post and try not to be embarrassed.
When you scroll all the way back, what do you see? Is it a heavily framed landscape photo with the antique film effect? Or a picture of an unremarkable Starbucks coffee cup on your work desk? No shame, we’ve all been there.
If you’re the tech-savvy sort, you may have already been using Instagram back in 2010 or 2011, way before it came the app where people spend upwards of 32 minutes daily.
Instagram launched on October 6, 2010. Eight years, an acquisition by Facebook, change of icon, and hundreds of updates later, our relationship with Instagram has evolved from a meager curiosity to, what some will consider, a full-blown addiction.
To remind us how our Instagram feeds looked in 2010, we found the courage to scroll through our own accounts to the very beginning. Yes, allllll the way back.
Do these Instagram cliches apply to you too? Please, tell us we’re not alone!

The three most popular filters used globally are:
1. Kelvin
2. Valencia
3. Nashville
The fewer followers an account has, the more likely they are to use filters on their photos.
Roughly 10% of photos posted with the hashtag #NoFilter actually use filters.

2010 vs. 2018: #OOTD
Fashion influencer marketing has come a long way since 2010. In 2015, Harvard Business Review ran its first-ever case study about fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad, noting that she made more than $8 million the previous year.
Danielle Bernstein of @WeWoreWhat reportedly charges brands upwards of $20,000 per branded post.
Leandra Medine, the force behind Man Repeller, turned her blog into a fashion powerhouse with 15+ employees.
Influencer marketing is set to reach an estimated $10 BILLION by 2020, according to AdWeek.
As of October 5, 2018, the hashtag #OOTD had 210,113,995 posts on Instagram.
Today Instagram has one billion active users every month, of which 500 million use the app daily. People have shared around 50 billion photos and are double-tapping 4.2 million times a day.
The users? Some 68% of ‘Grammers are women, and 20% live in the United States. More than half are between 18 and 29 and a little over one-third are between 30 and 49. Gen Z? Nearly 72% of them use the app.

Animal influencers, who would have thought?
A pet account with one million plus followers can garner more than $15,000 per sponsored post.
A report released by Mavrck about animal influencer content revealed that brands that utilized pet influencers saw an 89% increase in comments than when compared to their human counterparts.
2010 vs. 2018: The Selfie
According to Rawhide, a nonprofit organization, more than 1,000 selfies are posted to Instagram every 10 seconds.
Mashable predicts that in a lifetime the average person will take 25,000 selfies.
In 2015, more people died from taking selfies than from shark attacks.
2010 vs. 2018: #WCW & #MCM
Behind every cute photo on Instagram, there's a frustrated boyfriend taking "just one more photo."
Relationship experts at Harvard University have suggested that people who post photos gushing over their significant others may be doing so to mask relationship problems. Researchers said that using captions like "my girl" or "bae" can be signs of possessiveness.
