Famous female friendships we’d like to join

There are few things more powerful in this world than a group of women supporting each other. Having strong, confident female friends to celebrate your highs and love you through your lows is not only one of life’s greatest treasures but scientifically-speaking, the secret to living a long one.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating some of Hollywood’s most famous female friendships. From Gayle and Oprah to Maisie and Sophie, these ladies prove that when girls support girls, everyone wins.

Game of Thrones alums Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner may have played fictional sisters on the show but in real life, the actresses are close friends. Sophie told Glamour UK in March 2019, “People always think Maisie and I are a couple. I mean, I am obsessed with her, so you never know. She’s my drug. I’ve got an addiction to Maisie Williams. I actually stalk her hashtag on Instagram!”

The TV queen famously told Barbara Walters in 2010, “[Gayle] is … the mother I never had. She is … the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don’t know a better person. I don’t know a better person.”

The Charlie’s Angels duo have been inseparable since the film brought them together more than 20 years ago. Drew told ET in 2018, “We’re like more than best friends, [Cameron’s] my sister.”

The Destiny’s Child singers have been friends since they were each nine years old. Kelly told Marie Claire, “We grew up in this industry together; we’ve shared ups and downs and we are closer than ever. I can tell her anything and she’ll never judge me. She’s a real friend: genuine, loyal and trustworthy. She’s also one of the sweetest people you ever did meet.”

The funny ladies met in 1993 at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic and have been close friends ever since. Tiny told Vulture that when Amy finally joined her at Saturday Night Live in 2001, “I was so happy. Weirdly, I remember thinking, ‘My friend is here! My friend is here!’ Even though things had been going great for me at the show, with Amy there, I felt less alone.”

The Friends have been inseparable since their iconic series premiered 25 years ago. Jennifer has said of Courteney, “There’s absolutely no judgment in Court. You’ll never feel scolded. She’s extremely fair, ridiculously loyal, and fiercely loving . . . Without giving away too much of my private stuff, all I can say is she’s been there for me through thick and thin.”

“She’s one of my best friends,” Penélope told Allure in 2004. “We call each other huevos [eggs]. It was because when we were working together, we didn’t have children yet, so we used to sleep much more than now. So it was a way to call each other lazy.”

“We’re best friends and have shared lots of life lessons together,” Eva told Daily Mail Australia of her and Victoria’s decade-long friendship. “What we talk about is between us but we’ve been through stuff together.”
