The new colour palette: 5 colours we’re shopping for this year

The turn of the year always brings a certain spirit of optimism and, at least for us, a desire for a wardrobe refresh.

Switching up your colour palette is one of the simplest and fastest ways to give your wardrobe a makeover. Whether you prefer neutral and muted shades, or are simply leaning into the winter vibe with dark blues, browns, and greys, adding a bright or sugary hue can make a world of difference. This ultra-pale shade of yellow—so light that, under certain lights, it looks almost cream—has been a designer’s favourite during the last Fashion Month, making an appearance on the runway from Sandy Liang to 3.1 Phillip Lim. Butter-toned pieces have also begun gaining traction amongst the fashion crowd throughout 2024: pair that with the runway success, and you have a strong contender for the it-colour of 2025. Butter yellow can be a bright, shiny alternative to “classic” neutrals like beiges and light browns, especially for the spring.

Butter yellow might have had a moment on the Spring/Summer 2025 runways, but powder pink was the undisputed winner.

From Simone Rocha to Ferragamo, soft shades of pink were seen everywhere, from dresses to wrap-over cardigans. After the “Barbie pink” phenomenon, we’re entering the era of “Sandy Liang pink,” a soft candy lipstick shade that was omnipresent in the designer’s SS25 show. Another key difference from Barbie pink is its sophistication: hardcore neutrals lovers would never be caught dead in a bright pink outfit, but they’d probably make an exception for this more “grown up” shade.

If you’ve read this far, you probably got the gist: pastels are back in 2025, and they’re here to stay.

Pale purple shades like periwinkle, lilac, and lavender will be some of the trendiest options for spring 2025, but they can also be repurposed for the colder months due to their often icy undertones. Sergio Hudson, PH5, and Versace are just a few of the designers who embraced pastel purples for their Spring/Summer shows, using it for suiting, knitwear, and prints. Vittoria Ceretti’s stunning total-lavender Gucci ensemble for the 2024 LACMA Art+Film Gala, held annually at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, is what our wildest purple dreams for 2025 are made of.

Move over sage, olive, and brat green, there’s a new sheriff in town. Muted-yet-striking seafoam green is expected to be the green shade of 2025. This soft hue is definitely one of the most versatile of the 2025 pastels (second only to butter yellow): it’s bold enough to make a statement while remaining understated, it’s relaxed yet sophisticated, and it pairs great with light neutrals (greys and beiges), caramel browns, and deeper shades—like dark blue and burgundy. In short, seafoam green is the perfect non-committal pop of colour for those who prefer a more grounded palette, and its versatility makes it suited for occasion pieces—like flowy dresses—and everyday staples—like cardigans.

You can’t really ever go wrong with a classic: the tried-and-true navy blue is set to make a big splash in 2025, and we couldn’t be happier.

Besides blue denim—which obviously never goes out of style—we’re going to see navy blue as the go-to dark neutral for next year. While many of us would rock the same total-black fit a thousand times before even thinking about reaching for a navy blue piece, we urge you to embrace the possibilities: being an almost unexpected option, anything navy blue—from a pair of slacks to a purse, or a coat—will immediately elevate your look and make you feel more put-together than you can imagine.
