How to pull off the Canadian Tuxedo, 2023’s chicest co-ord trend
Why does the Canadian Tuxedo get such a bad rap? Double denim has been low-key trendy for decades, and it is coming back in full force for 2023: Canada’s most polarising creation is the co-ord trend of the year.

And more than obvious costume party attire, double denim can be surprisingly chic. Maya Hawke, Cate Blanchett, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, and most recently Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have all sported the Canadian Tuxedo. And not only that: respected labels like JW Anderson, Givenchy, and Dion Lee have sent more than one model down the runway in head-to-toe denim.
Contrary to popular belief, the Canadian Tuxedo can be more than denim button-downs and matching jeans: corset tops, maxi skirts, knee-high boots, shorts, and even three-piece suits are part of the ever-so-chic double-denim universe. I’ll let you in on another secret: the two denim pieces don’t even have to match.
A full dark-wash denim ensemble can feel super dressy and refined, while a light-wash gives a more casual vibe. Other colours of denim, like black and even lilac, make for a show-stopping outfit.

How to accessorize your Canadian Tuxedo
Styling the infamous tuxedo can feel challenging, but you mustn’t give in to fear. We especially love pairing double denim with neon shoes and accessories. Moreover, light denim looks great with silver jewelry, while dark-wash denim really makes gold jewelry pop. Lastly, a leather jacket or a trench coat can help lessen the blue jean blues. Unless your trench coat is denim too… now that’s what we call commitment.
