These will be the trending sneakers of 2025

Ah, the sneaker. The classic piece of footwear that will always have a place in our closet. The reality is, we can’t all be Victoria Beckham and wear heels day in and day out.  Although fashion is high on your priority list—comfort is its close-by neighbour.

Sometimes, reality forces us into a practical pair of shoes. Therefore, a good pair of functional trainers is a must-have for anyone’s closet, whether you’re a tried-and-true sneaker fan or just want to inject some comfort into your life. Knowing you, practicality isn’t enough: function has to meet form to create a pair of chic sneakers you can also walk ten thousand steps in. But what are the trending styles for 2025?

The retro sneakers trend started a couple of years back with the massive rise in popularity of the Adidas Sambas and Onitsuka Tigers, and now it’s evolved to include colour: retro red is the go-to shade for trainers in 2025.

A pop of crimson is a timeless and chic addition to any outfit, and this year, we’ll be wearing our “something red” in the form of a vintage-inspired sneaker.

Golden Goose’s Marathon shoes are a luxury take on the trend, while Puma’s Speedcat, Arizona, and Avanti L models are as stylish as they are affordable.

It’s about time that the whimsical and romantic yet edgy girlies got a sneaker just for them. Mary Janes have become one of the it-shoes of 2024, and Mary Jane sneakers are set to achieve the same level of popularity in 2025.

This style was pioneered by the romantic-yet-edgy final bosses: Sandy Liang—namely through her collaboration with sportswear brand Salomon—and Simone Rocha—whose chunky ballet sneakers are a grail piece among fashion fanatics. This year, Salomon is still the go-to for Mary Jane sneakers thanks to their newest collab with MM6 Maison Margiela, while Ash, Camper, Roa, and Rombaut are some of the coolest brands to carry this style.

Just like with Mary Jane sneakers, it’s clear that hybrid sneakers are all the rage for 2025. Another hybrid style set to gain traction this year is sneakers slides and mules: the same trainer silhouettes you know and love, but with an updated backless design. If you thought sneakers couldn’t get more laid-back, it’s time to think again.

Salomon x MM6 is, once again, the place to be to shop for this trend. Golden Goose, Hoka, and New Balance—including their collab with Miu Miu—are some of the labels carrying the coolest slide-on sneakers of the year.

While Salomon sneakers have historically been known as the shoe of choice for trail runners and gym-goers, the brand has been popping up on the heels of today’s style elites, cementing itself as a trend to watch in 2023. One of the most popular models of the year has been the XT-6.

Fall 2024 is still fresh in our memories, and the suede obsession continues—this time with sneakers.

Loewe, Chloé, and Stella McCartney all showed iterations of high-top sneakers, cementing this style’s popularity for the next few months.

Another—somewhat unexpected—trend to rise out of the second half of 2024 is the resurgence of high-top wedge sneakers, in particular Isabel Marant’s Bekett, Bilsy, Im3, and Balskee models. Will this 2010s fave keep going strong in 2025?
