Another day, another episode of “What are French girls wearing this fall?”

Blame it on the hype about the fourth season of Emily in Paris premiering over the past month, the influx of Paris Fashion Week content that has taken over our social media feeds since Monday, or the embarrassing amount of time we’ve spent perusing French-themed Instagram accounts. Still, our French girl obsession may have reached a new peak.

We’ve snuck a look inside their jewellery boxes and tiptoed around their bedrooms, all to find the best French-girl-approved fall staples. From luxurious scarf coats to earthy shades of green, these are the trends the chicest Parisians are wearing this season.

Animal prints have experienced a spike in popularity during the past couple of years, with leopard print populating the mood boards of many fashion enthusiasts.

While trend forecasters are predicting that cowhide and cow print will overtake other prints over the next few months, the undying popularity of leopard print was undeniable at Paris Fashion Week. From attendees to models off duty, Parisians showed up and showed out with their spotted ensembles.

With its muted tones, leopard print is often regarded as a neutral, and that’s exactly how French girls are styling it for fall: leopard print is used as a valve to dress up jeans and a white t-shirt and to add warmth to a punchy red dress. In either case, the result is a striking outfit with an undeniable cool factor.

Although expected for fall, suede is set to be one of the biggest trends this season, and the cool girls of Paris made sure to put their own spin on the trend.

From outerwear to accessories, there are plenty of ways to incorporate suede into your fall wardrobe, but this season, French girls have decided that brown suede boots are the way to go. Warm shades of brown beautifully complement suede’s alluring tactility, adding dimension to any look. When it comes to shape, the boots of choice reflect the trends of the season: tall, slouchy, and square-toed styles are all extremely on-trend for fall 2024, but also classic enough to remain in your autumn shoe rotation for years to come.

Cold-weather lovers will be the first ones to tell you: there’s nothing better than wrapping yourself into your favourite cozy coat when the temperatures drop.

The attendees at Paris Fashion Week seem to think the same: as the weather in the French capital plunges into fall territory, it-girls around town are beginning to rock oversized, engulfing coats to go with their Fashion-Week-ready outfits. Scarf coats are especially hot at the moment, combining the best characteristics of warm scarves and lux outerwear with the added benefit of never wishing you had brought an extra layer with you. Other trending styles are double- and single-breasted coats in oversized silhouettes and textured materials like wool, perfect for adding a tactile element to a monochrome look.

Speaking of monochrome looks, green is one of the big colour trends of this year and has garnered plenty of fans among influencers and celebrities alike. Not only that, the AW24 collections displayed in March of this year clearly showed green as the new colour trend for the upcoming cold months.

For fall, French girls are layering their looks with multiple shades of green: military green, khaki, olive, and brownish shades. The key to achieving the look is gravitating towards more muted and less punchy shades, which not only are perfect for fall, but also add an air of class and timeless French sophistication to any outfit.
