Go-Go Boots Inspo: Modernizing the 60’s and 70’s Look

In the 60’s and 70’s people got groovy in the popular shoe of the period called go-go boots. You don’t really witness people wearing these out in today’s fashion world, unless they are a part of a costume. Nonetheless, modern boots have materialized and taken inspiration from go-go boots themselves.

It’s safe to say, with their similar structure and decadent white color, that white lace-up boots  recall the go-go boots that made their debut in the 60s and 70s. As much as there are similarities between them, there are differences, too, that help enhance the original stellar boot.

Versatility in Style

Go-go boots were only designed in two forms: one a mid-calf height with a low-heel in the 60’s and the other a knee-high boot with a squared toe in the 70’s. Now, they are available in a multitude of styles, including both previous forms. With a style’s modernization there are many more options on how you can go-go. Go for a tomboy style by chucking them on with a T-shirt dress and baseball cap. Get funky with them by wearing a pair of leather leggings. Toss them on even during warmer days with high-waisted shorts, a T-shirt and denim jacket.

Quality over Quantity

Leather, canvas, suede – oh my! Compared to the rubber once used to manufacture many go-go boots on the market, we’ve really got it good now. Not only do white lace-up boots have a much more high-quality appearance, they also play with different mediums that can be used to mix and match with other textures in an outfit. Wear canvas boots with jeans to give off a much more relaxed feel. Match canvas structured boots with lace leggings and a short pleated skirt for a youthful vibe. Rock leather boots with a flannel shirt for a grunge appeal.

Lace it Up

The most obvious innovation that comes with this style of boot is targeted on the laces. Laces differentiate our modern boot from being called a go-go boot in the twentieth century. The addition of laces gives the boot a more sporty feel, allowing you to elevate any look easily into athleisure or just give off a hint of it. Wear a pair with a T-shirt dress and varsity jacket tied around the waist or worn on the shoulders for the full sporty effect.

Aren’t you glad that go-go boots were a thing? Without them, we wouldn’t have these lace-up boots to style with anything…or everything.

We’re going gaga over this modern day style of the go-go boot.
