The right design and materials for flowerpots

Many thanks for the flowers! Flowerpots need plants. And without them, the flowers would not be fully appreciated, leaving them unprotected and unadorned. With this in mind we’ll show you which plants form the perfect pair with flowerpots and what you should look out for when making a purchase:

Which materials are suitable for flowerpots?

  • Flowerpots made of wood: This natural material lends warmth and a robust touch to rooms. Green plants in particular, such as ivy, create a great contrast to the brown wood.
  • Flowerpots made of ceramic: White examples are particualrly well suited to spaces that are decorated in a minimalist fashion. However, flowerpots in colorful ceramics or in a vintage-look offer space for small palm trees, herbs or a lucky bamboo in a motley ambiance.
  • Flowerpots made from plastic: These pots are shatterproof, that might be primarily due to the good will of cat owners when the animals walk along the windowsill time and time again.
  • Flowerpots made of metal: Silver colored models bring elegant plants like orchids into the right light.
  • Flowerpots made of clay: Manufactured flowerpots made of red clay or terracota exude Meditterranean flair and are perfectly suited to herbs, such as thyme, basil or sweet smelling lavender.

Which flowerpot shape is ideal for my plants ?

The shape and size of flowerpots is determined, first and foremost, by the measurements of the plant but also by the spatial conditions.

  • Sunroom or terrace: large, chalice-like shaped flowerpots with hanging plants or round terracotta models with tall plants such as palm trees.
  • Small windowsills: square ceramic pots with herbs or elongated plastic models, in which many small flowers can be arranged next to each other.
  • On the dining table: round or square flowerpot sets look just as good. These can be emphasized for example, by the pot color or the pot size but they should match stylistically. This way you provide optical variation on the table.
  • In the bedroom: placed in the corner, four-sided flowerpots with large plants look the best. The Bonus: They clean the air while you sleep. Dragon trees, ficus plants or palm trees also filter out a lot of harmful substances.

Simply let them hang: New flowerpot models

There are also models that hang from the ceiling and can therefore become small room dividers – for example, if you use a hanging basket plant with pretty tendrils. Extravagant options are flowerpots which are hung with the base at the top so the flowers hang upside down.

Generally speaking: The bigger the container, together with the plant, the more space is required for the decoration to have a real effect. All other details depend on taste and your living space.

Secret stars: Flowerpots and plants are the perfect pair for a pleasant atmosphere.
