How to Fashion Your Fanny Pack
How to Fashion Your Fanny Pack
The fanny pack is back. Whether it rode the 90s wave back into our collective consciousness or it’s their practicality that won our hearts again, these bum bags are the latest stylish sidekick. But with a bag that was once synonymous with dorky dads, it can still feel like a fashion don’t for those who lack the right finesse.
The hands-free answer to your bulky back pockets and half-empty messenger bags, the fanny pack is worth the fashion risk and with our fool-proof tips it’s sure to only reap rewards.
Hip Hugger
Belly bag, bum bag or fanny pack—none of these names appropriately describe where this bag should be worn on your body. Despite what the name implies, it shouldn’t be perched on your rear where it can easily be pick-pocketed or hanging under your belly. When you wear your bag around your waist, let the pouch rest at your hip.
Loud & Proud
If you want to try a fanny pack in true 90’s style, pick one up in a bright neon or try an unexpected print. The key to pulling off these loud bags is confidence, so your best accessory for this bag is a carefree attitude.
Repurposed
A narrow waist can make it hard for a guy to sport a fanny pack, as the weight of your bag can pull down your pants. Don’t make a fanny pack faux-pas by cinching your pack like a belt to keep your pants in place. Instead, slip it around your body like a messenger bag.
Belted Down
Perhaps the fanny pack would be less cringe-inducing if we changed its name to belt-bag, which is more accurate when it comes to the many refined designer takes on this peculiar purse. Try one that feels more like a belt with an attached wallet for a look that feels more modern.
From festivals to concerts to just going downtown, learning how to wear these fanny packs will put you at the head of the stylish pack.
These bum bags won’t bum you out.
