The simple shirt can be customized or complicated by designers, but the ultimate appeal is that casual T-shirts make a statement, identify with a cause and keep the wearer cool in summertime. Who needs long sleeves?
Take the Casual out of Casual T-shirts
Let’s face it: T-shirts are a quintessential casual item— everyone owns them and wears them without much thought. Save tees from their relaxed realm and give them the glory they deserve. Gym shorts and sneakers no more, casual T-shirts are getting an upgrade.
There are more do’s than don’ts when it comes to giving these neglected items stylish attention— all they need is a little love.
Do add a blazer
Pull a professional coat into the picture and a basic tee grows new wings. The combination of a polished item with one that’s more easygoing shows you can master the tricky art of business casual. Is it Friday yet?
Don’t wear a wrinkled one
Creases and folds don’t bode well for any clothing, but with a T-shirt they’re a definite no. You’re trying to raise its status, not tank it. Either immediately pull your tees from the dryer and fold, or be prepared to iron.
Do tuck into a skirt
A graphic tee paired with an asymmetrical high-waisted skirt looks fresh and refined. Tuck in a tee so it just barely folds over the top of the skirt. Opt for a shorter shirt to avoid visible tucking lines. Finish off the look with strappy two-toned sandals and you’ll be suited to a ‘T.’
Don’t stick with denim
Bid farewell to a pairing that’s classic, but not necessarily chic on its own. If you want to freshen up your staple tee, mix it up with different bottoms and don’t revert back to your old ways.
Do bring in jewelry
Add sparkle to a basic T-shirt and bring it back to life. A choker necklace with a logoed tee or a collared necklace over an abstract one gives a glamorous feel to an otherwise casual piece.
A favorite old tee can come out of the closet with doses of style and love. It just calls for a little extra something.
