The Holiday
With a cast like this, it’s no wonder that this movie is a Christmas classic. In addition to Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law, the romantic Christmas film also features Jack Black as well as Eli Wallach, as a lovable neighbor. Set in L.A. and the south of England, the film is about two women who have been disappointed by love, only to end up finding it in unexpected places when they swap homes for the holiday season.

Movie #2
Love Actually
The romantic movie Love Actually was released in 2003 with a star-studded cast including Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, and Keira Knightley, and since then, Christmas has never been the same. According to Liberty Marketing, the Golden Globe-nominated film is #1 on the list of Britain’s favorite Christmas movies, and is also the most searched Christmas movie in France, Italy and 17 other countries, totaling 887,000 searches per month worldwide.
At Stylight we’ve noticed that searches for some of the iconic looks from the film experience a spike in interest and traffic starting in early November. Who could forget the memorable scene where Juliet (Kiera Knightley) opens the door to find Mark (Andrew Lincoln) pouring his heart out through a series of large cardboard signs (“For me, you’re perfect”). In the scene she wears a white, off-the-shoulder, knitted top and on Stylight, clicks for knitted tops have increased by 43%.
Another memorable scene is where David (Hugh Grant), the British Prime Minister and his employee Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), are caught kissing backstage at the Christmas show. In the scene Natalie wears a chic red blazer cut coat, we’ve tracked a 55% increase in searches on Google for red coats – the perfect outerwear for Christmas. The last memorable item is the grey chunky knit cardigan worn by Aurelia – always a Christmas classic, we saw a 171% increase in clicks on cozy chunky knit cardigans.

Movie #3
Love Hard
When we talk about Christmas movies we often talk about romantic comedies, and this year Netflix has given us a new one to add to our collection of favorites. The movie stars the beautiful Nina Dobrev who plays Natalie – a girl struggling with the difficult world of online dating. Among a thousand misunderstandings, Christmas songs and ultra romantic scenes, we at Stylight have certainly not missed some fashion staples of the film, starting with the funny ugly Christmas T-shirt with the text “I ain’t no Ho Ho Ho”. It seems like the corny t-shirt has appealed to many, since Google searches for this shirt increased by +100% the day after the release of the film.
A few other items on Stylight have seen an incredible increase in clicks in the 24 hours following the launch of Love Hard, such as the black and yellow down jacket by The North Face (+40%) and the sleeveless down jacket “Lydia” by Levi’s (+100%) and finally we could not miss the beautiful dress worn by Natalie, which has increased the interest in red dresses with flowers by +32% on our platform.

Movie #4
Bridget Jones
For many of us, there is no Christmas without Bridget Jones. Since the day when this charmingly clumsy Englishwoman opened the pages of her diary, we have all been bewitched by her humor and cynical romanticism – as well as admire her many unforgettable outfits (yes including the granny panties).
Among some of the iconic garments and accessories of the Bridget Jones series, it’s impossible not to mention the ugly Christmas sweater worn by the serious Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). The reindeer sweater has had such an impact that some experts go so far as to say that the movie marked the beginning of the trend for ugly Christmas sweaters around the world (there’s even an international day in honor of them). It’s no wonder that last year Stylight saw a spike in interest and traffic of over 1000% in the weeks leading up to Christmas. There is also the iconic heart-shaped Tiffany pendant which is worn by Bridget in all three films of the saga and we’ve seen a 162% increase in clicks on heart necklaces on Stylight. The pajamas worn by Bridget Jones (to the tune of “All by Myself”) are also a Christmas staple – and on Stylight we’ve seen a +614% increase in clicks on pajama sets and on Google the search interest for “Christmas pajamas” has been exploding in the last few years.

Searches for the keyword “Christmas pajamas” has been steadily increasing for the last few years – especially for Christmas 2020. The searches likely increased because many of us in lockdown at home were looking for a cozy way to stay in the Christmas spirit.
Movie #5
Home Alone
Our list of Christmas movies wouldn’t be complete without the classic, Home Alone. This heartwarming, 90’s film makes us want to curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and eat Christmas cookies all day. To date, it has grossed over $476.7 million dollars and in the U.S. it’s still one of the top grossing comedies of all time. Around Christmas time, searches for “Macaulay Culkin” typically increase by +45%, and this year it will probably increase even more since the former child star made his runway debut this year at Gucci’s Love Parade.
The iconic red knitted sweater and pom pom beanie worn by Macaulay’s character, Kevin McCallister, in the film are also classics, with +291% and 255% increases in clicks around the Christmas season. Even though the film celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, it still holds a relevant place in today’s culture – Adidas released a special edition Home Alone sneaker on December 11th. And now you can even rent the famous McCallister house in Winnetka, Illinois on Airbnb.
