It’s a trend that we can’t take our eyes off of. Call it what you want – sheer, transparent, naked, mesh – the see through dress trend is taking off. In the past month alone, Google searches for the “see through dress trend” have increased by 110% and on Stylight we’ve also seen a 41% increase in demand for mesh clothing. But we expect that this trend is going to pick up even more thanks to an extra push from the Met Gala after parties this past week.

While the theme of the Met Gala might have been a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, the theme for the after parties was apparently “barely there”. Celebs like Olivia Wilde, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, and Kendall Jenner (just to name a few) all wore sheer looks following the Met Gala. Olivia Wilde wore a see-through metallic crochet dress from Chloé’s Spring 2023 collection with cheeky, Brazilian-cut briefs, which was considerably subtle compared to Kendall Jenner’s silvery, sheer look by Nensi Dojaka. While it had the illusion of a mini dress – the look was actually a short romper worn over a black thong with a matching black harness.
But one thing’s for sure, this trend is bold and not everyone is as daring as Kendall Jenner. If you’re not sure how to style the trend, don’t worry apparently you’re not alone. According to Google, there have been 200% growth in searches for “what to wear under a sheer dress?” in the last month and as a result our magazine article about how to style a see through dress has seen a 367% increase in visits compared to last year.

About the numbers: Google numbers were taken from Google Trends and were anaylzed on a monthly basis.
