Working It in the Winter in Season-Ready Boots

Working It in the Winter in Season-Ready Boots

For men, finding the right boots to go with your pants during the winter can sometimes be a daunting task. It’s easier for the ladies because there’s a smorgasbord of choices. But when your walk to work has been turned into an obstacle course of snow, trudging along in slippery lace-ups isn’t going to cut it. You need the proper winter boot to go with your workwear.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you can’t decide on which boots to wear to work.

It’s All in the Lining

There’s no reason your ankles and toes should suffer in the cold because your loafers are too thin. For unbearable weather, invest in a pair of short boots that has both a thick fabric lining for trapping heat and a rubber sole to repel moisture. You’ll want to opt for a low ankle boot so it’s easily worn with your trousers.

Let it Snow

When snow falls in the city, it has about a good half hour before it turns into a murky pile of slush. Protect your feet and suit from the sludge by tucking the bottom of your pants into shearling boots that reach just past your ankle. Remember that too much slush could mean the end for your boots so it’s advisable to use a protectant spray. If you’re worried about appearing unprofessional with your pants tucked in, slip them over your boots instead—no one will know the difference.

A Tough Sole

It may not be snowing, but the polar temperatures have turned every road and sidewalk into a skating rink. This is where boots with a lug sole— ridges on the bottom— come in handy. Lug soles look best with jeans, so head to work on a Friday or to a business casual event wearing tan boots and stone-wash skinny jeans. Complete the look with a light blue button-down beneath a dark blue vest with a red tie peeking out.

The battle between Mother Nature and your shoes is over. Prepare yourself for winter with the right boots to match your work wardrobe.
