There’s good news for all those guys who crave a little more comfort: Tapered jeans are back on trend and no less comfortable than their ‘80s predecessors. Owing to their shape, pants of this kind are sometimes referred to as “carrot jeans”. Featuring a high waist and a loose fit around the hips – often achieved using pleats – tapered jeans give plenty of space in the thigh and butt area. Unlike drainpipe jeans, they become narrower towards the ankle – creating a carrot-like silhouette. Here are some tips from Stylight on how to put together three cool outfits:
1. Tapered jeans for men meet the lumberjack shirt
A neat outfit that’s just as good for wearing to the office as for chilling out. Here’s how to create the look: The lumberjack shirt should pick up the color of the jeans (a black & red or black & white checked shirt goes well with black tapered jeans, for example). A short-sleeved lumberjack shirt can also be worn casually over a tank top. This outfit looks best in combination with loafers (NOT to be worn ‘80s-style with white socks!); lace-up boots are also a good option, as are sandals in summer.
2. Tapered jeans for men meet the denim top
The all-denim look is likewise back in vogue. It’s cool and suitable for everyday wear, which means this time it’s here to stay. Here’s how to create the look: Go for a pair of gray tapered jeans combined with a dark-blue denim shirt, a light-brown belt and narrow-cut sneakers. For a full-on denim look, the tapered jeans should be in exactly the same shade as the denim shirt, but feature a contrasting wash pattern.
3. Tapered jeans for men meet the hoodie
Looking chilled out has never been so easy: Just pull on your tapered jeans and hoodie and you’re done!
Here’s how to create the look: In this case, it’s best to opt for tapered jeans of the exaggerated variety (loose fitting at the top and extremely narrow at the bottom) combined with a color-coordinated hoodie and sneakers. A cap rounds off the casual, laid-back look to perfection.
When the tapered jeans trend for men emerged in the early ‘80s, these comfortable pants were often sported in combination with polo shirts and loafers, mainly by young people (followers of the “New Romantic Movement”), who were keen to set themselves apart from punks and rockers. Nowadays, these wide-hipped pants are worn by men of all ages – without so much as a hint of rebelliousness.
