Buying a suit is a big investment, both in the garment itself and in your future. From business attire to formal wear your suit speaks volumes about you. Make sure your look is always on point when you pick a suit that fits you perfectly.
Short
Whether you’re on the shorter side or you’re simply looking to bring a more grandiose presence to your appearance, we have a few tricks for you. For a suit that will elongate a little figure, consider one with a light vertical stripe and slim lapel to draw eyes cleanly from your shoes to your shoulders. Give the illusion of longer arms when letting your shirt cuffs extend past the sleeve of your jacket.
Tall
For a suit that won’t leave you looking stretched out, find ways to add width. A wide lapel and added diagonally striped tie will pull the eye horizontally and break up a long silhouette. Other details can also fill up the blank space of a tall suit, consider a coat with two buttons or adding a pocket square and belt. Avoid pin stripes and pointed toe shoes that will make you look like longer.
Large
Large men often feel inclined to wear a roomy suit. Suppress the urge to buy big and take the time to get your suit tailored for a good fit. Keeping things in proportion is the key to finding the perfect suit. While you don’t want to wear wide lapels that will accent your width, you also don’t want a slim lapel that will get lost. The same goes for your tie. Steer clear of light colored suits or patterns and embrace dark colors in lightweight fabrics for a slimmer silhouette.
Athletic
For a man with a lot of muscle, choosing the right suit can be tricky. While your chest is wide and your hips are narrow, it’s important to play down your triangular shape while accenting your fit frame. Skip the shoulder pads and pocket squares that will draw attention to your upper body and opt for slim lapels that will draw the eye downward. Keep your jacket buttoned for a deep V that will elongate your frame and balance your top. Don’t let your large jacket size dictate your pants size, choose a slim pant for a fitted look from head to toe.
