Past, Present and Future: Celebrating Gucci’s Creative Directors With Belts

What can we say about Gucci? Hands down, it’s one of the most respected fashion houses around. Over the last two decades, Gucci has been directed by three incredible creative directors, each bringing their own flavor to the storied Italian fashion house. Their design approaches are so distinct, you can create a separate look based on each aesthetic. We’re showing you how to do exactly that with a Gucci belt.

Starting with Tom Ford and ending with Alessandro Michele, we’re showing you how each director impacted the fashion empire, and how to make their legacy your own with a Gucci belt.

Tom Ford

Under former creative director Tom Ford, Gucci was exciting, sultry and unabashedly sexy. From 1994 to 2004, Ford unleashed an irresistibly provocative vision the luxury brand hadn’t seen in a long time. There was the Halston-style velvet hipsters, the skinny satin shirt, and a slew of other iconic designs that transformed men into dapper dons. Embrace the sex appeal of the Tom Ford Gucci man with a G monogram leather belt, a satin top, slim-fit pants and wingtip shoes.

Frida Giannini

After Ford, Gucci was briefly directed by another designer before landing in the nurturing hands of Frida Giannini in 2006. She brought the label back to its roots, updating traditional Gucci elements, like the “Flora” pattern, for the brand’s hungry fans. When thinking of Giannini Gucci, think classic glamour, which you can easily recreate with a canvas belt in the house’s colors paired with cuffed pants, a white V-neck shirt and chunky knit cardigan.

Alessandro Michele

Continuing a tradition of promoting in-house designers, Gucci plucked its next and current CD from the accessories department. With Alessandro Michele at the helm, everything about Gucci is young, fresh, wild and whimsical—like a boho-chic friend with the really cool wardrobe. From seductive to youthful, each designer brought his or her own creative passion to the iconic house. That same passion is waiting for you with a Gucci belt.
