The who’s who of denim vests for men

Men, it’s time to celebrate the comeback of the ‘80s! Along with its big brother the denim jacket, denim vests for men are back on the fashion radar. Luckily, not much remains of the old, loose-fitting cuts, huge superimposed pockets, and ragged seams; denim vests have quite literally cleaned up their act. Let Stylight show you how to best combine them:

White and black denim

You don’t have to stick to the typical blue denim variety; white and black denim are ideal when you want to make a more sophisticated impression. Tapered designs go best with button-up shirts and dress pants. All that’s missing is a jacket to make this ensemble office-appropriate. Black leather jackets are better for creating a typical rockabilly look for dinner or a night at the club. Tuxedo-style denim vests for men are the best way to look dressed up while still rocking some denim. Ties, bow ties, Derby shoes, and hats are perfect accessories for achieving the Dandy look.

Light denim

My, my, my, doesn’t this look familiar! We can’t help but think of the old ‘80s street style when we see faded denim. The only difference is that, today, we combine these vests with tank tops and sweaters. If you really want to bump up your cool-factor, try combining used-look denim vests with hoodies, while letting the hood hang casually over the back of the vest. You can even wear your vest with a laid-back denim button-up shirt, as long as it has a darker wash than the vest. Accessories: Leather belt, boots or sneakers, and a cap.

Dark denim

Dark-wash denim is perfect for all you big city slickers out there. These vests tend to look best combined with checkered shirts with rolled-up sleeves and cargo pants – giddy-up, cowboy! Feel free to choose a denim vest that fits more loosely. All that’s left to do is trade your horse in for a bike and you’re ready to go! Appropriate accessories include brown leather belts and suede shoes.

Form-fitting cuts lend denim a more refined look, while loose-fitting designs exude a more laid-back flair. If you want to combine your denim vest with a pair of jeans, they need to have a similar wash to look just right. If you’re unsure, you can’t go wrong with a pair of black jeans or cargo pants.

The ‘80s are back: Thanks to new washes, denim vests for men are slicker and cooler than ever before!
