When buying watches the first factors to consider are taste and, of course, the price you are willing to pay for it. 1. Not every watch can go swimming
You should only wear your automatic watch with your trunks if it is up to 100 meters (10 bar) waterproof. If the value is below this, you can probably wear it in the shower or when washing your hands at best. If you’re unsure, consult a watchmaker before taking the plunge. The density test is quick and saves you expensive repair costs.
2. A good automatic watch for men protects your clothes
Look for a watch with a good transition between the watch case and the strap. If there are sharp corners there or in other places, this could be a real ordeal for your new cashmere sweater.
3. If it doesn’t fit, make it fit
Have metal straps shortened by a specialist to avoid the upset of self-made scrape marks. Keep hold of the other links from the chain in case your watch becomes too narrow again or you want to sell it later.
4. Not every watch is ideal with every outfit
Pilot watches were originally developed for the needs of pilots. They have a large watch case with an easy to read clock face and they usually have a stopwatch function. Watches like this go best with casual free time outfits, due to their size, and they should not be combined with suits.
